10 facts about Marmaris

I guess theres no better place to start a website about Marmaris than to pull together 10 facts about Marmaris you may – or may not know

  1. Marmaris is located in South West Turkey, in the Muğla Province.
  2. Marmaris main source of income comes from Tourism, which takes Marmaris normal population of 28000 to over 300000.
  3. Marmaris is a major centre for Diving and sailing – with regular ferry crossings to nearby Rhodes (a greek island)
  4. Marmaris has a Mediterranean Climate characterised by a hot and humid summer and cool, rainy winter. Showers and rain are very unlikely between May and October.
  5. Marmaris nightlife is as good as any on the Turkish coast, perfect for both the younger and older generation
  6. It is not certain when Marmaris was founded however it is known that in the 6th century BC the city was known as Physkos, and considered part of Caria.
  7. Marmaris is twinned with Monaco, as well as Liege (Belgium) and Gujrat (Pakistan)
  8. Temperatures can reach as high as 40 degrees celcius in the summer months
  9. Places to visit include Kumlubuk, Loryma and Sedir Island
